Biography of Gunnar Lagergren

A biography of Gunnar Lagergren, Skiljedomens ädla konst, internationell domare för handel, fred och mänskliga rättigheter was among SCC’s initiatives as part of its 100-year celebration. It tells story about Mr Lagergren’s work in peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Gunnar Lagergren was one of the renowned actors that had put Sweden on the map of international arbitration. Among his extraordinary achievements was his presidency of the US-Iran Claims Tribunal, where he led the settlement of thousands of claims arising out of the hostage crisis at the United States Embassy in Tehran, and the subsequent freezing of Iranian assets by the US. In addition, he chaired several arbitration that had shaped our history, such as a the Rann Kutch arbitration between India and Pakistan and the Taba arbitration between Israel and Egypt.

The book was written by Anders Johnson, a Swedish author who has written 120 titles, mostly about political and economic history in Sweden. In the book, Mr Johnson took readers to events in Berlin, Geneva, London and Paris.

The SCC hosted an official launch of the book at its premises on 16 May 2017. Among the guests were members of the Lagergren family, former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jan Eliasson and international arbitration community in Sweden.
