Inaugural GAR Live Women in Arbitration
A regional update from Africa, emergency arbitration, and transparency in international arbitration were some of the topics on the agenda for the inaugural GAR Live Women in Arbitration in London, co-chaired by SCC’s Annette Magnusson and Sylvia Noury of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
More than 100 attendees had gathered for the very first GAR Live Women in Arbitration. A conversation under the leadership of Angeline Welsh of Matrix Chambers kicked off the program, where senior arbitrators Carita Wallgren-Lindholm and Janet Walker shared from their experience in an engaging dialogue with the audience.
The program included hot topics and challenges in African arbitration, recent developments in ISDS, a discussion in the use of interim measures with a particular focus on emergency arbitration, and why transparency matters in international arbitration.
One panel targeted specifically the best steps women in the field can take to secure lead counsel and arbitrator roles rather than second or third chairing. In an open discussion, the art of building a profile as a leading arbitrator was also touched upon.
