SCC at celebration conference in Beijing
On 3 November 2018 a joint conference took place in Beijing celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the New York Convention and the adoption of the Singapore Convention on Mediation.
The conference was hosted and organized by the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in collaboration with United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the China Council for the Promotion of International (CCPIT) sponsored by the Department of Legal Affairs of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the China Academy of Arbitration Law.
The international conference featured 30 speakers from a number of countries, including three of the SCC Board members: Patricia Shaughnessy, Li Hu and Jakob Ragnwaldh. Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary UNCITRAL, provided the key-note address followed by speakers on a variety of topics including leading Chinese and foreign scholars, senior representatives of the hosting organizations, experienced practitioners, representatives from leading arbitration institutes, including the OHADA Permanent Secretary, and Ms. Gao Xiaoli, Deputy Chief Judge of the Chinese Supreme Court.
The conference brought into focus the success of the New York Convention and explored its application in China and globally. Speakers also addressed the new Singapore Mediation Convention and the increasingly important role of mediation in dispute resolution.
