UNCITRAL’s 50th Anniversary in Cairo
UNCITRAL turns fifty years old. The SCC will be in Cairo this weekend to take part of a conference celebrating this anniversary, with the theme of “Global inclusion and dispute resolution: Harmonizing trends in international arbitration".
The conference will take place on 9 and 10 December 2017 and is co-hosted by United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA). It will bring together experts in international arbitration from the region, among others from Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Kuwait.
Among the speakers are the Secretary of UNCITRAL, Anna Joubin-Bret and H.E. Dr. Nabil Elaraby, Chairman of CRCICA Board of Trustees and Former Secretary General of the Arab League. A panel discussion will address the enforcement and evolution of the New York Convention, the cornerstone of international arbitration, since it entered into force almost sixty years ago. SCC Secretary General Annette Magnusson will be participating in a panel addressing the UNICITRAL Arbitration Rules as applied by arbitration institutions.
Other topics in the conference include:
- Reform of Investor-State Dispute Settlement
- The Modernizing Role of UNICITRAL Texts
- The Leading role of Egypt in Modernizing International Trade Laws
