Just published: The powers and duties of arbitrators
A book on a well-discussed but inadequately studied subject - an arbitrator's powers and duties has recently been published in honor of Dr. Pierre A. Karrer. The book shows how well an arbitration process can be in the hands of a master.
The Powers and Duties of an Arbitrator consider questions such as the following:
- What are the limits of an arbitrator’s power?
- Should arbitrators have a role in encouraging settlement?
- What are the duties and liabilities of arbitrators?
- To what extent may arbitrators delegate tasks and use tribunal secretaries?
Dr. Karrer has more than 40 years of experience in international arbitration and has previously served as Vice President of SCC. The book has been edited by SCC's current vice president, Patricia Shaughnessy and Sherlin Tung.
