Ulf Franke appointed SCC’s honorary chairman
The Board of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce has appointed Ulf Franke honorary chairman of the SCC. Ulf was the secretary-general of the SCC from 1975 until his retirement in 2010, and chairman of the SCC Board during 2013-2015.
The honorary title was presented by Michael Wolf, chairman of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, at a dinner on 22 January.
— During Ulf’s leadership, the SCC has developed into one of the world’s leading dispute resolution institutions. The success of the SCC is in large part a result of Ulf’s hard work, dedication and creativity, said Wolf.
Ulf has also represented Sweden in the global arena. He participated in the preparation of the UNCITRAL Model Law, acted as secretary general of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), and served as president of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitral Institutions (IFCAI).
— Sweden’s central role in international arbitration is to a great extent Ulf’s accomplishment, says Kaj Hobér, who succeeded Ulf Franke as SCC chairman.
When Ulf retired from the role of secretary general in 2010, the SCC published the volume Between East and West: Essays in Honour of Ulf Franke. The book included contributions by more than 50 authors from 15 countries.
