Stockholm Treaty Lab: The Prize
The winning team of the Stockholm Treaty Lab Prize gets to present its model treaty at a United Nations General Assembly side event.
Since the competition opened on 1 June 2017, 30 teams have registered. The submission period will start soon and the winner is to be announced in the first semester of 2018.
The Stockholm Treaty Lab Prize will be awarded to the team that drafts the most workable and forward-looking model investment treaty with the greatest potential to increase green investment.
Rather than a cash payment, the value of the Prize amounts to global exposure for the winning model treaty. More specifically, the winning team will be given the opportunity to present its model treaty at a United Nations General Assembly side event, hosted by Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI), a joint center of Columbia Law School and the Earth Institute, Columbia University. The event will take place in September 2018 at Columbia Law School in New York City (more information will be published soon).
Lisa Sachs, director at the CCSI, told the SCC: “The urgent and critical challenge of mobilizing investment to address climate change will require new forms of global governance and cooperation. We look forward to hosting a presentation by and discussion with the winner of the Stockholm Treaty Lab Prize in New York; this first-of-its-kind contest and the resulting proposal promise to make a major contribution to global governance, development, and climate solutions.”
