SCC Legal Counsel lectures in Bahrain
SCC Legal Counsel Ms. Celeste Salinas Quero is one of the instructors at a four day intensive course in international arbitration in Manama, Bahrain.
Ms. Salinas Quero will speak about the various mechanisms related to international investment arbitration; how the SCC deals with procedures for resolving investor-state disputes, initiation of proceedings, and requests for arbitration submitted by investors and answers submitted by responding states. Moreover, she will also address the constitution of tribunals, for example the criteria’s for appointment, possible conflicts of interest, and more.
The intensive course is taking place in Manama, Bahrain on 6-9 December, and is arranged by the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA) and the Investment Treaty Forum (ITF) of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL). The course is directed primarly at government officials och practisioners in the area.
The course will include the following key issues:
- General overview: recent development and trends
- The settlement and management of investor-state disputes
- The conduct of investor-state arbitration proceedings under selected arbitration rules
- Awards, post-award remedies, and recognition and enforcement of awards
Other instructors include SCC Board members Ms. Andrea Menaker and Mr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf. Ms. Menaker will focus on the topic “Engaging with Counsel”, while Mr. Abdel Raouf will speak about “The State of Play in the Middle East and North Africa, “The Management of Foreign Investment Relations and the Prevention of Foreign Investment Disputes”, and “Procedures for Resolving Investor-State Disputes”
